"Jacob Idlewine is Dead at age of 78--Jacob Idlewine, a resident
of Salem for the past 48 years, died at 2:15 o'clock Monday afternoon
at a local hospital at the age of 78 years and eight days. Mr.
Idlewine has conducted the Highland nursery on his residence property
at 2023 Broadway for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, March 27, at
1:30 o'clock from the Rigdon mortuary chapel, with the Rev. W.C.
Kantner officiating. Interment will be made in the Lee Mission
cemetery.
Mr. Idlewine is survived by four children, three daughters and
one son: Mrs. Dora Pickens and Mrs. O.D. Binegar, both of Salem; Mrs.
Hattie Varenos of Cedar City, Utah; and Harry Ashford of

Iiams, 63, died Saturday. Cause of death was unavailable. He was
born in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. He was involved in
many trades and was a musician in the Willamette Valley. He was a founding
member of the Salem Hot Rod Association and enjoyed restoring old cars.
Survivors include his sons, Michael of Salem, Mitch of Beaverton
and Edgar of Turner; daughter, Shay Iiams of Redmond; brothers, Robert Noble
of Salem and Darryl of Antelope, Calif.; sisters, Earlene Schlosser of Gold
Hill and Carol Heer of Eugene; one grandchild.
Memorial
services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Virgil T. Golden Chapel. Interment
will be private. Contributions: Willamette Valley Hospice, 2700 Market

"Edwin Imig, 88, 4682 Swegle Road
NE, died Tuesday at a Salem hospital. He was born at Mosel, Wis., near
Sheboygan, and had lived at Salem since 1911. He farmed until retiring
about 10 years ago. He was a member of Bethany Bible Church, Salem, until
the church disbanded about 1961.
Survivors include the widow,
Maria, Salem; sons, Rueben, Salem; brothers, Hugo of Mosel, Wis., and Arthur
of Sterling, Colo.; sisters Miss Lidia Imig and Mrs. Elma Sass, both of Plymouth,
Wis., Miss Hertha Imig, Portland, Mrs. Laura Kielemeier, San Jose, Calif.; five
grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending at Howell-Edwards mortuary.
The family suggests contributions to the American Bible Society."

Wis., she came here in 1922, later moved to Portland, and returned here in 1977.
She worked for the Oregon State Schools for the Blind and for the Deaf.
She also worked for the linen mills in Salem. She was a member of
Grace Bible Church, Portland.
Surviving are her sister, Alma Sass,
Plymouth, Wis.; and nephew, Reuben Imig, Salem. Services will be at 2
p.m. Saturday at the Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary. Private interment
will be in Lee Mission Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Capital

Survivors include his wife, sons, Ivan R., Ronald J., and Randahl T.,
all of Salem, Allen J. of Phoenix, Ariz. and David E. of LaGrande; and 14 grandchildren.

"W. Edwin Ingalls Dies on Saturday--Noted
Methodist Minister Ill Many Months; Will Be Buried Tuesday--Death came at two
o'clock Saturday afternoon to end the long sufferings of Rev. W. Edwin Ingalls
at the family home, 425 N. 23rd street. For three years Rev. Ingalls has
been afflicted with paralysis, and has been bedfast for nine weeks. Two
weeks ago his condition became critical. Members of the family were sent
for, and his wife and their two daughters were with him at the last.
Funeral
services will be held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock at the First Methodist
Episcopal church. Rev. B. Earle Parker is making arrangements for the
funeral which will be conducted by Bishop Titus Lowe of Portland, assisted by
Dr. M.A. Marcy, district superintendent, Rev. A.F. Lacey, and Dr. Parker. Pallbearers
will be pastors of churches which Rev. Ingalls formerly served: Rev. E.B. Lockhart,
Lebanon; W.S. Gordon, Silverton; Hiram B. Foulke, Jason Lee; J.W. Worrell, Dallas;
G.O. Oliver, Hillsboro; J.J. Patton, Beaverton. Interment will take place
at Jason Lee Cemetery.
Mr. Ingalls was born in Indiana, October
23, 1867. He attended Tri-State normal at Angola, Ind., and DePauw university,
Greencastle. For a number of years he taught in the public schools and
later prepared himself for the ministry. He preached at numerous charges
of the M.E. church in Indiana, coming to Oregon in 1906.
Besides
the churches previously mentioned, he served at Silverton, Sherwood, Amity and
several Portland churches including Mt. Scott, Trinity and Pioneer of St. Johns.
He was widely known over the Willamette valley as a man of high ideals
and sound moral principles. He labored diligently in the service of his
church and his Master. He left Jason Lee to enter Y.M.C.A. work during
the war, taking training at Stanford and Columbia and serving overseas.
In 1891 Rev. Ingalls was married to Miss Hortense M. Showalter at
Auburn, Indiana. Three children were born to them, one of whom, Keith,
a son, died in infancy. Two daughters and four grandchildren survive;
also two sisters, one a twin, Mrs. Lillian E. Garber of Elkhart, Ind., and Mrs.
Lana Clark, Pleasant Lake, Ind.; and one brother, Dr. A.T. Ingalls, a prominent

Irish--Laurence K. Irish, 57, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at the home,
1545 Paza NW, from what was apparently a heart attack. Resident
of this area for five years, he distributed his own grain cleaner device for
which he held a patent. He was born at Rochester, Minn. Irish attended
First Baptist Church.
Surviving are the widow, Laura, Salem;
two sons, Robert and Keith, both Salem; daughters, Mrs. Joan Kefer and Miss

citizen and moved to Salem. She married Robert E. Irish on Sept. 19, 1964,
in Salem. She was a member of Riviera Baptist Church.
Survivors
include her husband; son, Robert L. of Salem; daughters, Kavon Irish of Salem,
and Laura Knudsen of Milwaukie, brother, Myles McMillan of Aumsville; sisters,
Janice DeLapp of Hillsboro, and Judy Marsland of Salem; and one grandchild.

"Dr. G.M. Irwin Dead--Ex Official Stricken At Age of 78--Former
Superintendent of Public Instruction and Chemawa Indian School Dies in Seattle--Seattle,
Wash., Aug 23.--(Special)--Rev. George M. Irwin, D.D., aged 78 years, minister
of the Riverton Methodist Episcopal Church, and formerly prominent in educational
fields of Oregon and Alaska, died at his home, 1916 Seventh avenue West, today.
Dr. Irwin was born in Dayton, O., and attended Wesleyan University.
About 30 years ago he went to Walla Walla, Wash., and later went to Oregon
to take charge of the Methodist Churches at Union and LaGrande, in which district
he later became presiding elcer. He left the church work, however, when
he was appointed superintendent of Chemawa Indian training school, near Salem,
Or., for services he had rendered in the Blaine campaign.
After
he had held this position for several years he was appointed Superintendent
of Public Instruction in the State of Oregon in 1894, and held that office until
1898. He passed a year in the East where his wife was doing postgraduate
work in medicine and when he returned, he was appointed United States Commissioner
of Instruction at Douglas, Alaska, where he remained until 1906. While
in Alaska he was sent to represent the Territory at the exposition at St. Louis
by Governor Brady, of Alaska, and there delivered the official oration on Alaska.
One daughter, Mrs. Arthur Dayton, of Astoria,Or., one son, George
H. Irwin of Portland, and a widow, Mrs. Lillian C. Irwin, survive Dr. Irwin.

Irwin, of tuberculosis, aged 25 years and 11 months.
The deceased was born in Tennessee, and has resided in Salem for
the past eight years. He leaves, besides his parents, a young
wife and little son of about one year, and the following brothers and
sisters: William, Moss, Teddy and Edith of Salem, Mrs. C.W.
Bogard, of Lebanon, and Mrs. Paul Valerius, of Bellingham, Washington,
who has been here for the past two months.
The funeral will take place from the home Friday at 2 p.m., the
services being conducted by the Rev. H.A. Deck, pastor of the
Evangelical church. Interment will be made in Lee Mission

Deceased was born in Cecil county, Maryland, July 14, 1837, and
when 2 years old went with her mother to Illinois, her father having
died six months after her birth. In 1857 she was married to Rev.
G.M. Irwin and since then she has at all times been a helpmeet for
him. The funeral services will be held at the First M.E. church
this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Grannis, pastor of the
